Open to students ages 6–12 in participating markets, the contest encourages children to reflect on the prompt: “Why is your hero special?” Participants are invited to write about individuals who inspire them—whether that’s a teacher, nurse, first responder, military member, parent, or another important figure.

Students may submit their essays through multiple convenient methods, including online, in person at participating ZIPS locations, or by mail. Submissions will be accepted through April 2026, with specific deadlines based on submission type.
